For my first blog, with no blogging experience (I have started several user groups on Yahoo) so far, I have to admit that Wordpress has been a real challenge. Almost everything is counter-intuitive, and even simple tasks are very difficult and hard to figure out (for example if I make a chart in Excel, I have not yet been able to put it in a post…) Even simple posts can take hours if anthing more than text is hoped for.

Hi Chris – I followed your helpful tutorial but could you tell me how I can keep my first post or front page permanently up there when people visit the site? When I write a new post it takes first position but I have an introduction page that I want to be up when people first visit.

    thanks,

Oh Jesus, this is 45 minutes long. After watching the first two, I’m gonna make an educated guess and say that he spends at least a half hour rambling and reading what’s on the screen, already plainly legible to viewers.

great tutorial, i am new to whole blogosphere trip. i see nothing wrong with ’sucks’… you DO know that the earth sucks? as in, ‘gravity causes all matter to be sucked into/onto earth’s surface.’ and, ‘to suck means to ‘take in”. what’s so shameful about taking in, incorporating, etc?

  • thestringdreams May 7, 2010

I wish you could you another word in place of “sucks”, little kids may go to this as well, fantastic help though!

  • aaronboy08 May 7, 2010

Great tutorial, but how about a tutorial on how to choose a Theme and look and the steps to get it up and running on WordPress. That would be a great addition.

Anyone out there looking for a shorter version of the same thing from this video check out my channel and videos.

Its amazing how many middle aged people have no clue about blogging. Even people who spend hours on Facebook dont have proper blogs. They spend all that time talking and sharing their lifes why not have a blog thats the way I look at it.

Mainly its students who seriously fail when it comes to blogging because so few do it or do it seriously. They don’t seem to realise what a blog could grow to if they are passionate about their subject and how it can help them communicate in their field.

  • JGanvil May 7, 2010

  • MoeBedard May 7, 2010

Great video, a little lengthy. On my channel I have most of this information or similar stuff in different shorter videos. check out my videos if you want to quickly get info on how to use Wordpress and customize your page to make blogging easier. i made it 18:50 in and lost my will to live, much less learn to work wordpress.

watch him drag and drop widgets for 5 minutes and forget to save them EVERYTIME. wtf

  • absolutsista May 7, 2010

Thank you ,although much of what you showed here I basically figured out by trial & error using WordPress . I was hoping this tutorial would have gone into more specifics of why & how widgets can be used ; your section on domains would have been more helpful had you discussed the benefits or advantages of purchasing a domain name.

  • Hye1Phy May 7, 2010

you waste too much time. you need to go faster and stick to the stuff most people can’t figure out on their own. this tutorial would be a lot better if you weren’t wasting so many people’s time.

  • 23DBS May 7, 2010

Thank you so much, Chris. This really helped out a lot! We have to use Wordpress to create a ‘website’ for our Media coursework (our college is too cheap to get Dreamweaver) and as a complete novice, I didn’t know where to start. But this tutorial has helped fantastically, so thanks!

  • mpessanha May 7, 2010

But man we gotta get you some background music or something?
No way, I hate that bum-bum kind music at background…
I loved the video and help-me a lot. thx

  • jpizzy5474 May 7, 2010

Wow, I sat through this for the whole thing… was it worth it? yes.

But man we gotta get you some background music or something, I dozed off about 45min in. lol.

But good info and thanks for the help.

  • jrpesky May 7, 2010

You can really tell which comments are from adults and which ones are from kids. This was a great tutorial. One of the best I’ve watched on any subject.

  • sownsew May 7, 2010

Thank you Chris, a million times! I could almost cry from relief. I was totally lost on WordPress but now am found. Blind, but now I see. I finally believe that I can get my blog started.

  • spauldingchris May 7, 2010

Boring. Self indulgent. If you want to make an instructional video cut out all the bloated ‘me’ crap and get straight to it.

  • hnabas May 7, 2010

    awesome Tutorial

  • nerwin May 7, 2010

This was incredibly boring! I almost fell asleep while watching this, probably cause your voice is Mono, other than that it was a great video for people who don’t know how to set up a wordpress blog. But I thought this video was going to be on how to blog, like writing and stuff like that.

  • EndTheMonopoly May 7, 2010
